Two sports people from the Grantham Journal coverage area have been honoured at the annual Lincolnshire Sports Awards.

The presentation night took place at Lincolnshire Showground last Thursday and saw Grantham’s Laura Graves collect the Young Sports Volunteer award, whilst Bassingham’s international racing driver Jack Harvey was named Lincs Sportsman of the Year for the second successive year.

Over the past year, Laura has seen huge achievements as chairman on the Young Ambassador Steering Group.

As well as leading a legacy tour across 32 primary schools promoting the Commonwealth Games, Laura supported the Inspire+ Mini Olympics and hugely supported school sport competitions in Lincolnshire.

She also supported the Legacy Co-ordinator for the 2013/14 Legacy Challenge and helped to deliver extensive training to schools. Laura also supports badminton development and volunteered at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

She is presently studying Sports Science with Management at Loughborough University.

Jack’s award was in recognition of another outstanding season in motor racing. He enjoyed a superb rookie season in the American Indy Lights race series in which he dominated the second half of the calendar, winning four of the last five races and ending tied on points for the championship title.

Jack’s award was collected by his father Paul.
