GRANTHAM Town's pre-season training began at The Meres last Saturday, with a healthy turnout of curious Gingerbreads fans in attendance.Joint managers Jimmy Albans and Wayne Hallcro have shown no let-up in securing more players this week.
A chance to pull on a Grantham shirt could be on the cards for local youngster Dan Reidy.
The former Croxton and Warthogs striker has had spells with Harrowby United and Spalding United and has impressed Hallcro in training.
Hallcro said: "Despite other interest locally, he wants to play for his hometown side.
"It has always been an ambition of his and he has shown great levels of fitness and enthusiasm."
Another former Central Midlands Supreme Division striker who has impressed in early sessions is Lee Potts whose 20 goals helped Radcliffe Olympic to the championship title.
Hallcro said: "He is a player who knows where the goal is. He wants to play at the highest level he can and so far has taken his chance with no hesitation.
"He has not looked out of place in anything we have done."
Last season's deft-footed winger David Brown has declared his commitment to wanting to return to The Meres for the coming season.
But Albans and Hallcro have failed to secure the services of Lincoln United's Dave Frecklington.
Hallcro said: "That is bound to happen with one or two. That's the nature of football at this level.
"We have moved on and are close to putting pen to paper with another quality midfielder who has experience at this level and the one above."
Supporters will get their first real chance to see how the new look Grantham are shaping up at their first pre-season friendly, which is away to Deeping Rangers next Saturay (July 11).
Kick-off is 3pm.
