Grantham Badminton Club men’s teams played twice last week.

In the Melton League, the first team’s first away game of the season saw them up against stiff Meltonshire opposition and they were soundly beaten, with only two rubbers going to three ends.

One was skilfully claimed by on-form Andrew Watson and Dave Chambers, whilst the other rubber involved Carl Jennings and Rob Scarborough, however they lost deciding end. Captain Rod Tyler partnered Jack Railton and the final result was 8-1 to Meltonshire.

The second string were whitewashed at home in Newark League Division One by a strong Westside team.

But valuable experience in the top flight was gained by reserve youngsters Carl Jennings and Andrew Watson, whilst the other team pairings, each picked off games to force some rubbers into a third and final end. Adrian Ackroyd played with Dave Coleman and Martin Chambers with Martin Peat.
