South Kesteven boys completed their league programme with a narrow but well deserved victory over Chilwell. Needing to win three of the final four singles, Andrew Watson led the way with a convincing victory against the Chilwell number one player.
However captain Carl Jennings decided the tie, coming back from 18-9 down to beat the Chilwell number two 22-20.
The team only lost one match all season to league winners Worksop Falcons.
The South Kesteven team comprised captain Carl Jennings, Andrew Watson, Harry Simpson and Chun Liu.
l Grantham Badminton Club men’s first team scored an impressive away win at Lincoln St Andrews in Newark League Division One, triumphing seven rubbers to two.
Nick Gill with Jan Bailey won all three of their rubbers, as did Chung Chan with Andrew Watson. The seventh Grantham rubber was claimed by the two Martins – Peat and Chambers.
In Melton League Division One, Grantham’s men travelled to Mars where they played with plastic shuttles and lost 6-3. Each Grantham pair picked up a single rubber from three, with two further rubbers narrowly lost in the third end. Rod Tyler played with Jack Railton, Rob Scarborough with Carl Jennings, and Dave Chambers with Andrew Watson.
The mixed second team took on Devon at home and triumphed 6-3.
Jaz Gilbert with Chung Chan picked up all three rubbers, as did Martin Chambers with Susie Steeples. Laura Graves with Martin Peat took their first pair to a third-end decider, but missed out.
