Grantham claimed the Belvoir League Knockout Cup on Sunday, taking the silverware by a single shot.
The final of the competition was staged at Barnstone Bowling Club, the home green of league president Len Payling, who by coincidence were Grantham’s opponents.
One of Grantham’s players turned out to be ineligible and so they played with 11 men instead of a dozen.
Barnstone triumphed on three rinks by a total of 18 shots, but the one winning rink for Grantham was won by 19 shots.
Results: Grantham names first – Joe Lewis, R. Sowerby and Jay Lewis lost to Payling, Taylor and Wrate 22-24; R. Adams, J. Duke and T. Oxley lost to Thornton, Hogg and Payling 16-26; Sumner, M. Orrey and M. Pullen won 31-12; Ian Johnson and Bill Johnson lost to Brown, Drew and Franklin.
