GRANTHAM Amateur Boxing Club’s Nathan Wallace had two bouts in the space of two weeks – and came out on top in both.
Nathan took on Eastwood ABC’s Craig Finch in the Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Senior Novice Division light-middleweight contest at Lincoln Hospital Social Club.
The Grantham fighter got off to a great start in defence of his Senior Novice Midlands title. Beginning steadily, he upped his work rate in the second round and notched up a convincing points lead against the highly-rated Finch.
Nathan got his combinations flowing in the third round and caught Finch with a sharp left jab which rocked the Nottingham man. Towards the end of the round he caught Finch again with a fine right hook which forced his opponent on to the ropes.
Nathan continued to dominate in the fourth round and a unanimous points decision went his way.
Nathan was back in action last Sunday in the Senior Novice Midland Counties semi-finals at Birmingham where he took on Kettering’s Connor Costello.
The Grantham ABC boxer wasted no time in this bout, taking just 15 seconds of the first round to demolish Costello. Nathan let rip with a magnificent three-punch combination in which a right upper-cut floored his opponent, sending him through the ropes and down on to his knees. The referee counted to nine and decided that the Kettering fighter was unable to continue the bout.
Nathan’s next fight will see him box for the Midlands Senior Novice title in Bedworth next Sunday.
