STEVE Mitchell emerged as Sudbrook Moor gents’ scratch club champion on Sunday.
Steve (pictured) will have his name engraved on the silver salver for the first time after his round of gross 69.
As the culmination of a playing year in which Steve has gained much experience and confidence, he outclassed the field of 24, who had pre-qualified the previous day.
Half a dozen of the top qualifiers were in reach of the title, including three time champion Martin Corby who led the qualifiers with a new course record of 66 on Saturday.
But it was Steve who had all the necessary ingredients to navigate the testing, lush course, taking victory by one shot from Simon Green. A further shot behind in third was Pete Martin and Martin Corby was fourth, three shots behind.
