ANCASTER’S Nick Watson won the Midland Open Amateur Golf Championship at the weekend.
The first round was at Forest Pines on Friday when 19-year-old Nick returned a score of five under par, setting a new course record, followed later in the day by a two under par at Holme Hall.
This left him tied for the lead going into Saturday at Holme Hall, when he scored rounds of four under par and one to give him a total of 10 under par to win the championship by two shots.
Nick is now in illustrious company, with previous winners of the Midland Open trophy including Peter McEvoy in 1978, David Howell in 1994 and world number one Luke Donald in 1998.
Nick has been playing golf at Stoke Rochford since he was four years old and has had an adult handicap since he was 10.
