STOKE Rochford became Lincolnshire County Golf Scratch Foursomes Champions when they won the Elsham Foursomes Trophy Final on Sunday.

This prestigious knockout competition started in March when Stoke Rochford defeated Kirton Holme in round one. Wins against Holme Hall and Cleethorpes in rounds two and three put them into the semi-finals and final, which were played at Elsham Golf Club.

In the semi-final against Immingham, Steve Greenfield and Ian Braime won 3 up, Nick Watson and Craig Hallam won 3 up, and captain Paul Knapp and Paul Lewis won 4 up, to win by an aggregate 10 up.

In the final they met Grimsby, when Greenfield and Braime won 5 up, Watson and Hallam won 2 up, Knapp and Lewis won 3 up, for a total again of 10 up to take the title for only the third time since its inception in 1965.

Stoke Rochford’s previous victories were in 1990 and 1994.
