Top young golfers from across the Midlands competed at Stoke Rochford Golf Club to compete for the Midland Youths Championship last week.
One hundred and 50 competitors from across the region enjoyed glorious weather as they went head-to-head during four rounds of golf played over three days. With the Stoke Rochford course in its finest condition for many years, competitors found the going tough and only four players managed to finish under par.
After leading the competition for the first three rounds, home favourite Nick Watson had to settle for fourth spot with a 279 total after a final round of 75 (+5). A double bogey at the first hole, closely followed by a triple bogey at the fifth, ended his chances early in the round.
Winner of the overall tournament, and Kymin Cup for the under-21 age group, was Josh Carpenter (Cleobury Mortimer GC, Worcestershire) who after opening with a one over par round of 71, went on to hit 11 birdies in his final three rounds as he finished 67-69-69 for a total of 276 (-4).
