Sudbrook Moor were privileged to host the Lincolnshire Union of Golf Clubs’ Team Championship for Nine-hole Golf Clubs on Sunday.

Selection had been made for the home team of four as an accolade for the past 10 months’ qualifying scores in the running Order of Merit, The Sword of Achievement. The sun shone all day for the team comprising the 2015 gents’ champion Martin Corby, Phil Hall, Andy Newman and Steve Davis.

As 2014 Nine-hole Golf Club champions, Sudbrook Moor met with Boston’s Kirton Holme, Lincoln’s Pottergate, RAF Waddington and Sutton Bridge Golf Clubs, looking for its sixth victory in the 15-year history of the Rita Hurst Salver.

In stableford format, with three of the four scores to count, the championship title went to RAF Waddington for their second time, having won it at Sudbrook Moor in 2013. Three points adrift were Sudbrook Moor who were presented with silver medals. Pottergate were third.

There were two medals for best individual scorecards, with RAF Waddington winning both, and Martin Corby’s 36 stableford points losing on a back nine countback for third place.

l Sudbrook seniors played their scheduled monthly mixed Texas Scramble Medal on one of those unlucky September wet days.

Undeterred by the conditions, the winning team of John Costall, Dennis Green and Barry Kay recorded a fabulous score of eight shots under par. The second best card was returned by John Chatburn, with brand new member Peter Falat and Tony Hall, less than a shot adrift. In third spot were Ted-John Johnson, Clive Watson and Rod Edwards.
