GOLF: ’Tis the season to be festive at Belton Woods

It is the time of the year when golfers play games for festive prizes, such as the Belton Woods annual Turkey Trot fourball event which attracted 96 players last Sunday, some of whom donned Christmas-themed outfits.

The extensive festive prize table had awards down to 10th placed Mr and Mrs Sharpe and Mr and Mrs Copley who took home Paxo stuffing.

STOKE ROCHFORD

Seniors

Stoke Rochford seniors Winter Warmer competition last week was a pairs ‘Stokesome’, with players randomly drawn in pairs.

Brothers Brian and Phil White proved to be a very successful partnership, coming in as winners with 40 points.

Runners-up with 39 points were Trevor Harvey and Les Cooper, and third with 38 on countback were Steve Major and Keith Eddy.

After seven rounds, 69 seniors have competed with Brian White having opened up a commanding overall lead with 28 points. Don Clements and John Wright share second place with 19 points apiece.

Leading the hunt for the Slack Goblet, awarded for the most single points, are Dave Waling and John Smeeton, each with six points, with another six players on five.

SUDBROOK MOOR

Early morning weather conditions hindered the Sudbrook Moor Saturday monthly qualifier field, but a depleted entry completed the stableford with some very respectable scores.

Christopher Wilmot’s top score of 35 points put him top of the Sword of Achievement standings. His back nine of 19 pipped Jason Turner by one point, followed by Jim Garriock and Steve, also on 35.

Alex Doig carded a solid 34, and best of Category 4 was Gary Benbow, from Paul McCarthy, both on 33. Leading lady was Mags McArthur.

The gents’ CSS was unusually high with +2 over SSS. The twos pot was untouched.

l The midweek qualifying stableford was won by on-form Barry Rohland, from Jeff Ward, Andy McDowall and Barry Pogson. Best lady was Jo Pearson and Michael Green won the twos pot.
