Sudbrook Moor

THREE couples were still in contention for the EM Direct Trophy going into the final round of the Junior Intermediate Scheme.

All three were newly formed partnerships, without years of experience under their belts.

The last event was a Saturday Greensomes strokeplay in the scheme that sees younger golfers play with parents, adults or experienced juniors.

Joshua Smith, who has won the title the past two seasons, partnered Jared Hackney and their pair started the final event with 21 Order of Merit points. William Hopkins and Charlie Hare had 24 and a breath behind on 24.5 were Stuart Smith and Joseph Ablewhite.

Exception golf ensued. Joshua and Jared returned the top scorecard for maximum points, bringing their total to 36. William and Charlie were second and also totalled 36 to tie for the title. Equal seventh were Stuart and Joseph who ended up with 33 points.

Birdie prizes accrued over the season went to brothers Adam and Richard Tomlinson, and Jared Hackney and Joshua Smith.
