Lincolnshire Primary Schools Gymnastics Championships were held at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Horncastle last Sunday.
Local Grantham coaches were supporting gymnasts from four local schools – St Mary’s, St Anne’s, Cliffedale and Harlaxton, as well as a boy from Bluecoat School in Stamford, linked with Inspire+. Everyone performed brilliantly and both individual and team awards were won.
St Mary’s performed consistently to take the under-11 mixed team title ahead of Ingham by 1.4 points, whilst Cliffedale also worked well to take the runners-up spot in both the under-9 and under-11 girls’ groups.
St Anne’s, as first time entrants to this level of competition, finished a creditable fifth out of 13 teams in the under-11 girls’ event.
Individually, there were several high placings from all the gymnasts, but particularly in the under-11 girls’ Level One in which Grantham took the top three positions with St Mary’s and St Anne’s.
Vaulting, as always, was fairly consistent from the Grantham gymnasts, but as a whole their floor work was much improved this year, with a particularly beautiful routine by Ruby Carthew (Cliffedale) who scored one of only a handful of 15s throughout the day.
Individual results: under-9 girls’ level one – 5 Amy Watson (Cliffedale); under-9 boys’ level one – 3 Raj Mistry (Cliffedale); under-11 girls’ level one – 1 Kensie Parsons (St Mary’s), 2 Harriet Johnson (St Anne’s), 3 Lucie Gilbert (St Mary’s; under-11 boys’ level two – 1 Robbie Magan (Bluecoat).
