Dry Doddington’s international hockey star Shona McCallin has been selected to represent the senior England women’s hockey squad next week.
England Hockey announced this week that the 22-year-old former KGGS pupil will be in the national squad taking part in the Champions Trophy tournament in Argentina.
The women’s tournament in Mendoza runs from next Saturday until December 7 and sees England drawn against three of their long-standing rivals.
Shona’s England take on Australia on the opening day before facing Germany on the following day. Their final group match will be against the host nation next Tuesday.
Shona said: “It is a real honour to get my England call-up. The atmosphere in Argentina is meant to be amazing and it will be my first major tournament for the senior England team.”
Shona spent four years playing for Dutch club MOP whilst studying at Tilburg University, from where she graduated in the summer.
Already looking to the 2016 Olympics in Rio, she is currently training full-time with the Great Britain squad at Bisham Abbey, Maidenhead.
