Young rowers from Walton Girls’ High School and Sixth Form celebrated winning the District Indoor Rowing Championships at Priory Ruskin Academy last Thursday.
Under the supervision of Steve Scott, cover supervisor at Walton and a keen rower himself, pupils from Years 7 to 9 rowed their way to success, overtaking Priory Ruskin to take the overall title.
As well as individual success, Walton took first and second places in the relay event, a 10-minute race that involved four team members changing over every 10 strokes.
Steve said he was delighted with the result. He said: “Both schools took up the challenge and all students rowed with enthusiasm, determination and a great deal of teamwork all round. I look forward to seeing both schools continue their training and achieve even greater distances.
“Rowing is a great sport and with indoor rowing, you don’t even need to get wet.”
