MEMBERS of Grantham Ji-Shin Aiwakai Karate Club took part in the annual National Championships at Derby last Sunday, with some competing for the first time. Five students entered and five medals were won.

Club coach and fifth dan Angie Emms said she was very proud of all her students, especially young Hermione Farmer who won gold for Fighting to become national champion at seven years old. She also achieved a bronze medal in Team Kata.

Three bronze medals were won by Danielle Farmer and Ben Johnson, plus another bronze in ladies’ Kumite Fighting.

A special award was presented to young Joshua Bailey-Drew for his courage and spirit.

l The Grantham club trains at The Meres every Wednesday, children 7pm to 8pm and adults 8pm to 9.30pm. An adults only Emzfit class takes place at St Anne’s Church Hall on Tuesdays between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
