Mixed results for Grantham Tennis Club teams

GRANTHAM Hockey Club ladies’ short format team hosted West Bridgford at the weekend.

The team of Angie Tapson, Liz Stokes, Rachel Wall, Judi Tromans, Jackie Edgley and Jette Smith-Rasmussen narrowly lost to a good team on Sunday.

The mixed doubles fourth team also played on Sunday, travelling to Eastwood, near Nottingham. They lost despite playing good tennis with the team comprising Colin Walton, Sheena Gordine, Johnny Ng, Laura Dixon, Mike Tromans and Lorraine Walton.

The ladies’ Nottinghamshire team saw their first victory of the season with a scoreline of 13 sets to five against Magdala. The winning team were Jackie Wilson, Liz Isles, Charlotte Palul, Katie Dines, Sue Cox and Jo Jones.

A contingent from Grantham travelled to Cromer Tennis club to play their annual Grade Three event. The tournament saw players from all over the country visit the coast to play on some of the finest grass courts in England.

A notable performance came from Andrew Isaac who reached the semi-final of the 16-and-under boys’ singles, narrowly losing to the second seed in a deciding 10-point tie-break. Richard Cragg also played well and ended up getting knocked out by the top seed in the quarter-finals.
