Grantham racing driver Olly Allen has made a return to the track this season, impressing with a rebuilt car after two years out of the sport.
The Former Ford Saloon Car Championship multi-title holder is now competing in the Blue Oval Saloon class section of the Classic Touring Car Racing Club Championship.
Still driving his Mark 3 Ford Fiesta, Olly and his race team have upgraded the car from 1.6 to 2.0-litre and also upgraded the suspension and brakes. The car also been repainted inside and out and Olly praised Grantham Autocare for their work: “The car looks absolutely awesome. We worked hard to give it an upgrade and were up till two or three in the morning before the first race at Mallory.
“The car is unbelievable. We have built an absolutely brilliant car.”
Olly and his team missed the first three race meetings whilst the car was being prepared and had no real idea how the Fiesta would perform at Mallory Park at the beginning of last month because he had not had any money left to spare for testing.
But any worries were allayed when he qualified and finished second in class and fifth overall, breaking the lap record by 1.4sec.
The next race meeting was at Snetterton at the beginning of this month when he finished with two class wins, taking a first and second overall, with yet another lap record under his belt in the process, this time by a staggering 2.6sec.
He was in action again this weekend when he improved once more with two first places overall and two class wins – and yet another lap record.
Despite only having faced five out of a possible 11 races, Olly is currenly lying a creditable second in class and third overall in the championship, although there are only two races left at the final meeting at Silverstone next month.
However, Olly already has his eyes on next season. He said: “I am trying to get a sponsor for next season so I can do all the races. And I have got some more tweaks to do to the car.”
