Barnstone saloon car racer Garrie Whittaker registered two more victories at Rockingham over the weekend to extend his lead in the Kumho Tyres BMW Championship.
Defending champion Garrie took his E36 M3 BMW out on track for qualifying on Saturday afternoon and only completed five laps of the circuit as he was confident the time he posted
would be plenty quick enough – and how right he was. A fastest lap of 1min 28.942sec put him on pole position, 0.98sec quicker than the nearest driver at an average speed of 78.52mph for the 1.9-mile circuit.
He made a slow start to the first race of the weekend on Sunday morning and was down to fourth going into the first corner, but by the next he was amazingly back in front following a couple of great overtaking moves.
After 14 laps in 20 minutes of racing, he took the chequered flag with a winning margin of 11sec over second placed Colin Wells.
Garrie and Wells were side by side around the first corner in the second race, but the Barnstone man edged in front to eventually win by eight seconds from Darren Fielding to made it a clean sweep of race victories this season.
Garrie goes into the next rounds of the championship at Snetterton leading the championship by six points from Fielding.
