Saloon car racer Rich Hockley recorded two second place finishes in the second round of the Honda Civic Cup Championship at Croft over the weekend.
Rich led in both races and was unfortunate that the first was red flagged when out in front.
He qualified his Civic third on the grid on Saturday and made some drastic changes to suspension set-up due to the increasingly wet conditions.
Rich jumped up to second spot from the start of race one and shot through to take the lead with several laps remaining. But a crash caused the race to be red flagged and Rich was relegated to second as the result was decided on position from the previous lap.
He started second on the grid for the second race and immediately went in front. But with the track drying quickly and his car still on a wet set-up, Rich knew holding on to the lead would be a struggle.
He was caught by Nic Chatburn, who gave him a little nudge as cut inside the Grantham man, but Rich held off the rest of the pack to take another well deserved second spot.
Rich thanked his sponsors and supporters and said: “Having never raced there before, I had heard it was a good, fast circuit. Two second places was a good result.”
The next round of the championship is at Snetterton on the weekend of June 8/9 when there will be four races.
