Barnstone saloon car racer Garrie Whittaker won the latest two rounds of the Kumho BMW Championship at Brands Hatch over the weekend as he seeks to regain the title he last won in 2011.
He qualified his BMW E36 on pole position in the 33-car field for race one on Saturday, recording 51.85sec for the 1.2-mile Indy circuit for an average speed of 83.85mph.
Garrie stormed away from the start line and built up a lead of more than one second per lap over defending champion Colin Wells in second place, taking the chequered flag after 23 laps in the 20 minutes race duration and breaking the lap record in the process.
Garrie enjoyed another good start in race two on Sunday but his progress was slowed by the safety car being deployed on two occasions. After the second restart, he found himself being chased hard by Wells but held on to take his second chequered flag of the weekend.
With three races remaining in the final round at Pembrey in Wales at the end of next month, Garrie leads the standings by just five points, with 45 still on offer.
