FIFTEEN-year-old Bottesford rower Callum Jones has been selected for Great Britain juniors under-19 squad.
Callum will row in the GB coxless four at the Junior World Championships at Dorney Lake, Eton, which begin on Wednesday.
His selection followed a series of trials and training camps which led up to an intensive final five-day trial at Holme Pierrepont when more than 50 of the best young rowers in Britain were whittled down to the chosen teams.
Following the trials, Callum undertook a further three weeks of training at Pangbourne, the training centre for British Rowing.
The team will move to the championship village at Royal Holloway College on Monday. Callum’s 16th birthday falls on the day of the World Championships opening ceremony on Tuesday and competition commences the following day.
Most GB junior rowers are selected in the year prior to their 19th birthday and are therefore only able to compete once as an under-19. However, as the youngest member of the team, Callum has the opportunity to row for three years as a Team GB under-19.
