GRANTHAM members of Newark Rowing Club youth squad enjoyed a successful day in the first-ever East Midlands Regatta at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham, on Saturday.

They were competing against clubs from as far away as Milton Keynes and Manchester, as well as local regional clubs such as Derby, Lincoln and Leicester

King’s School pupil Ashley Cowley continued his winning streak with doubles rowing partner Jack Smith, winning the J14 (Year 9) doubles event, and the pair were also part of the coxed quad who won their J15 event. Also in the J15 quad were Max Bradbury and Luke Wren, both King’s students.

Luke Wren was the most successful club member on the day, winning all three of the events he entered – the J15 coxed quad with team members Max Bradbury, Ashley Cowley and Adam Wright (coxed by Becs Wright), the J15 (Year 10) singles and, with team members Chris and Ollie Dove from Ruskin Priory Academy and Will Bowmar from St George’s, Sleaford, the adult intermediate coxless quad race.
