Grantham Tennis Club hosted a National Wheelchair Tennis Series tournament for the first time.
Nottingham’s James Shaw - who trains at Grantham Tennis Club and Loughborough - took main draw singles honours over the weekend.
In the final James overcame the very skilful and experienced Mehboob Hussain, of Birmingham.
After taking a very tight first set 9-7 on the tie- break, James took his game to a different level to claim the second set 4-0 and with it the winner’s medal.
James is a member of the Tennis Foundation’s Wheelchair Tennis World Class programme.
He used the Grantham event as a warm-up for an upcoming international tournament at Roche sur Yon in France.
In the doubles draw Grantham pair Paul Singleton and Darren Whitlock won the consolation event, beating James Shaw and Welshman Ashley Davies 10-5 in a third set tie-break
Aside from the main draw, two Grantham players contested the novice draw.
Dan Metcalfe-Hall won all three of his matches, only dropping games to fellow Grantham player and runner-up Dave Hayton Hill.
Wheelchair tennis has really taken off in Grantham.
