SWIMMING: Grantham club shines in home GP

Grantham Swimming Club members performed well in the second round of the Grantham Grand Prix at The Meres leisure centre.

Abigail Farkas earned her first Midlands qualifying time in the 200m freestyle event. She joins five other qualifiers so far from Grantham and will compete at Regional level in May.

There were some great swims all round with Abbie Philips swimming her best ever race in the 50m butterfly, coming first overall and breaking the club record for a 12-year-old girl.

Freya Colbert also showed great racing spirit by bettering her own club records as a nine-year-old in every single race.

At the half way stage of the competition, Lara Hawkes leads the 10 years age group ahead of clubmate Hannah Blake. George Berwick is third boy.

Jacob Allen leads the 11 years boys, with David Evans in third. Abigail Farkas is second in the girls’.

In the 12 years age group, Harry Fowler is first whilst in the girls’, Grantham have the top four spots with Eleanor Lythgoe, Amelia Peters, Abbie Philips and Katie Hitchcock respectively.
