Grantham Swimming Club’s Hayley Milne has broken the national 200m breaststroke (short course) disability record.
She knocked an amazing 10 seconds off the previous best for the distance at the East Midlands Championships and is the first swimmer in the club’s history to hold a GB record.
Hayley has cerebral palsy and swims in the SB7 classification. She also qualified to swim at national level in 50m and 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke. Her 100m breaststroke time is the third best in the disability event all-time rankings.
Grantham SC head coach Maciej Rakowski said: “This is a fantastic achievement by Hayley as she is such a hard worker. We do not have a disability squad in our club so she must train exactly the same as other swimmers, but she still keeps smiling.
“If Hayley keeps progressing this way, she might be even swimming at the Olympics in Rio.”
