Matt Leete helped England to win team gold at the Slovak Junior Open.

The Grantham College Table Tennis Academy teenager joined Tom Jarvis, Luke Savill and Josh Bennett in the squad and played in all three group matches as England topped the pool to go into the quarter-finals.

He sealed victory in two of those matches, beating Adrian Wetzel 3-0 (11-7, 11-7, 11-7) in the decider as England came from 2-1 down to defeat Norway, and then saw off Martin Danovsky 3-0 (11-8, 11-3, 11-2) in the final match of a 3-2 triumph against a combined team from Slovakia, Romania and England’s Samuel Kwan.

Although Leete did not play in the knockout stage, England defeated Czech Republic 3-1 in the quarter-finals, Hungary 3-0 in the semis and top seeds Germany 3-1 in the final to top the podium.

In the doubles, Leete and Jarvis were seeded second but were beaten 3-1 (12-10, 9-11, 11-6, 11-4) in the quarter-finals by Markus Tonkovic and Jakub Zelinka of the host nation.
