Ten Grantham youngsters have successfully passed their Table Tennis England Junior Umpire award.
The course was held over six weeks during which they had to learn how to umpire and score matches in their practical assessment, and show full understanding of the rules of the game.
They finally had to sit a written exam before they could become accredited junior umpires.
Course tutor Clive Henderson was extremely please with his students’ 100 per cent pass rate and said it helped having two local international umpires, Peter May and Alex Mercer, as role models.
The new junior umpires are Vignesh Natarajan, Frazer Winfield, Alex Robinson, Evie Milford, Trafford Mason, Jake Sutton, Charlie Neece and Sarah Henderson. Viren Panchal and Mathew Leete (not pictured) were also accredited.
The Junior Umpire Awards may be used as part of the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) Table Tennis, Sport Leaders UK awards (formerly CSLA), Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Young Officials Award and TT Networker – Table Tennis Youth Leadership Award.
Because this latest course was oversubscribed, a further course will be starting in September, but again limited to 10 places
