Tennis aces claim their prizes at the Grantham Closed event

The Grantham Closed tournament was hosted by Grantham Tennis Club - and proved to be another successful event with 166 people entering and participating in the 33 different events.

Finals Day was held on Sunday after a week of qualifying, with a great standard of tennis played throughout.

Grantham’s Mixed Fourth team missed out on promotion from the Lincoln and District League Division Two, following a narrow 5-4 defeat to Sleaford.

Both teams had 100 per cent records going into the decider, and despite Grantham winning more games, they missed out on rubbers won.

Prior to that, the team had made it six wins out of six matches with a 9-0 victory over Collingham Seconds.

Jake Gibbons and Martha Patton were beaten in the 14 and undermixed doubles by Cerys and Aaron Jones.

Grantham’s Men’s Fifths managed to get their first win after a couple of tough matches. Joe Patton & Adam Tapson, Will Kappen & David Hall and Michael Cragg & Rob Gibbons claimed a comfortable 7-2 win against Saxilby.
