Bingham’s David Phillipson was among 10 wheelchair tennis players to have been selected to ParalympicsGB, the British Paralympic Association (BPA) announced this week from New Palace Yard, under Big Ben, in the Houses of Parliament.

David, who made his Paralympic debut at Beijing 2008, said: “I’m so happy to be selected to play in my third Paralympic Games for ParalympicsGB.

“I am looking to hopefully medal this year with my doubles partner [Marc McCarroll]. I am training hard after recovering from injury, so if everything goes well I should be on top form come Rio.”

David was part of the men’s team that won a historic gold at the 2015 World Team Cup, where he played alongside Marc McCarroll and Alfie Hewett, who were also selected this week.

David’s family are particularly supportive of their son’s career, with mum Anne at one point doing a parachute jump to raise money for David’s tennis career.
