It was game, set and match for Grantham Tennis Club men’s first team who achieved promotion to the Regional league next season following a comfortable victory over West Bridgford.

The Grantham side consisted of Richard Surtees, Andrew Isaac, Jonathan Cummins and Richard Cragg. With the weather conditions in no-one’s favour, the men took to the clay courts to battle for the promotion.

With all four men winning their singles matches in the first round, the match was already sealed for the Grantham side, but they went on to win one doubles and lose the other in a third set tie-break, an overall victory of 10-2.

l Undefeated, Grantham men’s third team played at home against Bourne 1st and cruised to an all conquering 9-0 win, for a two from two record.

The team comprised of captain Colin Walton and Joe Patton, Rob Start and Martin Garrett, and Nigel Birch and Kane Goswell.

l Captained by Pip Jones, Grantham’s ladies hosted a strong Burton Joyce team.

The team of Pip, Angie Tapson, Jackie Edgley, Kathy Rusby, Marie Harris and Collette Cullen took to the astro courts and played some very good tennis, but it was not good enough to overcome the visitors.
