Grantham Tennis Club men’s third team travelled to Caunton on a very windy day with the team consisting of captain David Todd, Paul Carpenter, Barry Priestley, Martin Garratt, Harry Larkin and Dale Wright.

In the tricky, unpredictable conditions, it was extremely difficult for either side to sustain a rally but the home side coped better and Grantham were defeated 87-21.

l By contrast, Grantham ladies’ second team played Sutton Bonington in a highly entertaining match, in what can only be described as perfect weather.

The team comprised Elaine Pulfree, Rachel Pulfree, Lorraine Walton, Angela Anderson, captain Elaine Maplethorpe and Jackie Thompson. The ladies put on a fantastic display of tennis and their consistency paid off with a 66-42 overall victory.

l The mixed third team took on Lady Bay B at home on Sunday.

Drafting in juniors such as Dominic Newcombe and Sam Chan, who played extremely well under the pressure, the Grantham team only lost one rubber throughout. Also playing were Peter Elphick, Janet Ibberson, captain Pam Aust and Jo Jones.

l Grantham’s mixed third team travelled to Nottingham Tennis Centre Monday evening where they faced Burton Joyce 3rd.

The team, comprising captain Rob Isaac, Colin Walton, Megan Jones and Sue Cox, played some great tennis but were not quite strong enough on the night, with Burton Joyce taking the match 34-27 overall in a close tussle.
