Grantham Tennis Club men’s B team defeated Spalding away after ending the singles rubbers two apiece.
James Drennan paired Alistair Le Bas to form a winning combo. Michael Cragg and Luke Moore fought valiantly in their first set but succumbed in the end 6-4, before being comfortably beaten in the second.
This led to a shootout in which Alistair comfortably won his rubber, whilst James saved the losing Grantham doubles pairing from a final shootout with an excellent display of consistency to defeat the rampant Spalding in the decisive rubber.
l Grantham men’s Ageon first team whitewashed Louth 12-0 aaway with the team of Andrew Isaac, Rich Cragg, Rich Surtees and Jonathan Cummins. with a notable singles win for Andrew, 7-6, 6-4.
l The Mini Red Aegon A team played at home against Boston B and won 20-12.
The team were Hugo Dunn, who won all his matches, Toby Cullen, Joshua Harris and Imogen Clough.
l Mini Red Aegon B lost 32-0 away against Boston A with the team of Bethany Aust, Marc Blake, James Timms and Lj Fleckney.
l A strong 18-and-under boys’ Aegon team triumphed 10-2 at home against Deeping. The Grantham team were Andrew Isaac, Thomas White, Michael Cragg and Dom Newcombe.
l Grantham’s fourth mixed team retained their unbeaten record in Division Nine to become league champions.
The team of Colin Walton & Sheena Gordine, Peter Elphick & Sue Rowland and David Todd and Lorraine Walton won 72 games to 37.
l The men’s fourth team played their last match of the winter season on Mandala’s new artificial grass courts and produced an emphatic 89-19 win to secure joint second in the league.
The players were Barry Priestley, Peter Elphick, David Todd, John Walker Matt Street and David Dowty.
