Last weekend saw some strong tennis from Grantham Tennis Club members.
Grantham beat The Park with an overall score of 45-16 in the Mixed Indoor Winter League on Sunday. Players were Rob Isaac, Nigel Birch, Megan Jones and Sue Cox.
Captain Rob said of the win: “A good result thanks to the young blood in the team.”
Grantham men’s sixth team played away at Farnsfield in the Winter League on Sunday on a very windy but thankfully dry day.
The men beat Farnsfield away by a whopping 80-28 games. The team comprised of captain Simon Heath and Mark Gray, Rob Booth and Tim Bradley, and Marcus Wilkinson and Tim Sutton. Mark took a spectacular tumble across the court at one point but fortunately was unscathed and able to carry on.
The team adjourned to the Plough in Farnsfield to celebrate the win with a pint of real ale.
Meanwhile, Grantham men’s first team of Paul White, Mike Burnett, Richard Cragg, Jon Cummins, James Drennan and Alex Cobb played a very competitive David Lloyd West Bridgford team in their last Notts Division One Winter League match of the season.
Having won three of the previous five matches, Grantham needed a win to end the season near the top of the table. With West Bridgford aiming to become league champions, having been undefeated all winter, they arrived with a strong team, with a mix of Notts county players.
After a competitive match, with Richard Cragg and Jon Cummins remaining undefeated, the Notts team proved too strong and won by 68 games to 44.
Grantham men’s first team now look forward to National Aegon and Summer Lincs and Notts League fixtures.
