Grantham Tennis Club held their annual club championship finals day at Arnoldfield last Sunday.
Sunshine graced the courts as the 24 finals were played throughout the day. Andrew Isaac enjoyed success by winning the men’s singles, 18-and-under boys’ singles and doubles titles with partner Joshua King.
Megan Jones also had a rewarding day, winning the 18-and-under girls’ singles, the doubles with Judi Croudace and mixed doubles with Michael Cragg. Joe Patton won the 14-and-under boys’ singles and doubles with Lewis Picker.
Karel Meuwissen found form by winning the men’s veterans 45+ doubles with Neil Robertson and 40+ mixed doubles with Jackie Wilson. Nigel Birch won the veterans’ 45+ men’s singles.
Wendy Stewart had a very successful day by winning the lady veterans’ singles and mixed veterans’ doubles with partner Les Stewart. Mel Bloodworth won both the open mixed doubles with Paul White, and open ladies’ doubles with Mel Milner.
l The mixed fourth summer team defeated Nottingham Castle A away at the weekend and comprised Lorraine Walton, David Todd, Jonny Ng, Elaine Pulfrey, Colin Walton and Katie Dines.
The men’s veteran second string played their first match of the winter season and cruised to a convincing 8-0 victory at home to Rustons. The team consisted of Paul Kennedy, Paul Carpenter, Paul White and John Legard.
The men’s summer second team played their last match of an extremely difficult season against Burton Waters. The pairings were Mark Ottey and Mark Farmer, Dave Taylor and Paul Kimberley, and Josh King and Toby King, and lost 5-4.
The ladies’ summer first team played their last game of the season, away to a strong St James, and lost 5-4. They were Wendy Stewart, Lianne Tapson, Charlotte Palul, Mell Milner, Mel Bloodworth and Sophie Fletcher.
