Grantham Tennis Club ladies’ second team faced a tough Retford side on frosty courts at Arnoldfield.

In the cold conditions, Grantham played well and gave the Retford team a hard time, proving too strong for the visitors and triumphing 63-45.

The Grantham ladies were captain Jo Carstairs, Katy Dines, Roz Elphick, Liz Stokes, Claire Marris and Laura Dixon.

All in all, it ended being a comfortable enough win and the ladies will be looking to carry on their season in the same vein.

l The club’s mixed first team played away to Woodthorpe fielding a very youthful team.

Lianne Tapson partnered James Drennan, the more experienced pairing of the team, along with club manager Sarah Patton, who partnered her son Joe Patton, and juniors Michael Cragg and Ella Tapson who played extremely well.

With the partnering sorted, the team took to the courts where Grantham showed what they were made of and came away with a win by five games.

It was a great display of tennis by both teams, but the experience and youthfulness of Grantham helped to edge victory over the Woodthorpe side.

l The Lincolnshire ladies’ veteran team carried on their winning ways with a win over Tealby at the weekend, their second of the season.

The team consisted of Liz Frobisher, Lianne Tapson, Melanie Bloodworth and Jackie Wilson. Lianne and Liz won both matches convincingly, 6-1, 6-1, and 6-2, 6-1, whilst Melanie and Jackie had closer matches, winning 6-3, 6-2, and drawing 4-6, 6-1.
