Grantham Tennis Club men’s fourth team played at home where they beat a strong Sutton Bonington side 55-41.

The side, consisting of captain David Hall, Mike Roys, Adam Taspon, John Legard, Jonny Ng and Peter Elphick, played an outstanding three rounds of tennis with all the men finishing on good terms. David and Mike won 21-13, Adam and John won 19-17, and Jonny and Peter 15-11.

l Grantham’s mixed indoor third team played on Sunday night to a strong Woodthorpe 3rd.

An equally competent Grantham side, comprising Rob Isaac, Nigel Birch, Jo Jones and Sue Cox travelled to Nottingham Tennis Centre to earn a great 35-26 victory.

The match started well with the men’s winning their doubles comfortably 13-3. The Ladies were unfortunate in their doubles and lost 10-4. The first mixed was an unfortunate 7-9 defeat, however the second mixed was won 11-4 to give Grantham a deserved overall victory.

l Grantham Tennis Club held a successful mini red Matchplay competition at its Arnoldfield facilities on Saturday.

Seven girls and eight boys took part in the event which drew interest from players from other clubs and there will be more similar events planned in the future.
