Grantham Tennis Club ‘Minis’ have begun their Aegon summer season of matches.
The Mini Red B team played Boston A at the weekend with the team consisting of Alex Harris, Podraig Cunningham, Ava Holt and Armaan Ahmed. They played some good tennis, rallying well, but the Boston side’s experience told and they took overall victory.
The Orange team travelled to Tennis Buddies to start off their season. They fielded a very strong team comprising Jake Cullen, Luke Cullen, Cameron Anderson and Jack Street, and only lost one rubber throughout the whole match meaning for a 9-1 victory.
The Greens faced one of the toughest sides in the league at Boston but played some good tennis, although the home’s experience shone through. Grantham were represented by Jake Gibbons, Elliot Fisher, Heidi-Louise Roberts and George Railton.
The 12-and-under boys’ Aegon season started with a match against Eastgate at the weekend. Marco Pierbattisti, Nitesh Shyam, Owen Shaw and Ben Harrison were the four players who made up the very strong team that could not have started any better with a comfortable 12-0 overall win.
The men’s Aegon season also began with them facing Boston 2nd at home. The Grantham men triumphed 8-4 overall with the team of Richard Smart, Simon Cormor, Dom Newcombe and Michael Cragg.
Grantham ladies’ second string played their last match of the winter season against a very strong East Bridgford side.
But the Grantham side put on a great display of tennis and outclassed the opposition to take victory 60-48. The pairings were Angela Anderson and Tracy Hobson, captain Elaine Maplethorpe and Sue Taylor, and Elaine Pulfree and Rachel Pulfree.
