Grantham Tennis Club’s Aidan Bennett took part in the 11th National Learning Disability Tennis Event at Nottingham Tennis Centre last weekend – and came home with a gold medal.

The event attracted a strong field from all over the country and 19-year-old Aidan Bennett played three matches in total, winning two of them.

This meant he was tied with another player – David Jones. When Aidan raced into a 3-0 lead, David dug deep to reel off four games in a row.

Both players were now playing at their absolute best. They traded breaks of serve until the set was tied at 6-6 in what was a great performance from great players.

Aidan chased every ball down brilliantly and managed to secure the win on his first match point. The dramatic victory ensured that Aidan won the gold medal in his group.

Aidan is a member of Grantham Tennis Club where he trains twice a week at its new state-of-the-art facilities at Arnoldfield.
