TENNIS: Mixed results for Grantham ‘minis’

Grantham Tennis Club had mixed results in the weekend’s AEGON “mini” matches.

On Saturday, the under-16s beat Sleaford 12-0 at home with the team of Dominic Newcombe, Samuel Chan, Michael Cragg and Nishanth Shyam. The under-9s, comprising Jake Gibbons, James Peace, Martha Patton an Heidi-Louise Roberts ended up with two hard fought victories in a singles and a doubles in a 8-2 defeat to Boston.

The final match on Saturday saw the under-12s at Burton Waters in Lincoln where Aaron Jones, Ben Harrison, Marco Pierbattisti and Owen Shaw found themselves 6-2 down after the singles round and could not pull the tie back.

The under-14s enjoyed a convincing 10-2 victory at home on Sunday. The team were Joe Patton, Lewis Picker, Thomas White and Tom Horton. The under-10s lost 12-0 at Boston with the team of Madison Cook, Jamie Collier, Nitesh Shyam and Daniel Smith-Rasmussen.

The under-8s faced Stamford and came up with the win. The team consisted of Jake Cullen, Matthew Barry, Eve Kimberley and Thomas Legard.

The final senior winter matches took place at the weekend, with the mixed doubles second team playing back to back, to make sure the fixtures were fitted in before the deadline. The Saturday match saw Grantham travel to Lady Bay and lose 66-42 with the team of Paul Kennedy, Katy Dines, Martin Garrett, Jill Pindar, David Todd and Lorraine Walton.

The Sunday match was no better in terms of result, with the team losing 57-51 at Keyworth. The team comprised Paul Kennedy, Elaine Pulfree, David Todd, Lorraine Walton, Martin Garrett and Sheena Gordine.
