Grantham Tennis Club’s mixed fourth team played at Branston this week.
An incredibly close game saw Grantham win 5-4 on sets but lose by 56 games to 55, meaning the points were shared – two for Grantham and one to Branston
GTC’s team were Jonathan Francis, Gaynor Milford, Mike Roys, Sue Baxter, Jarek Mechlinski and Christine Cragg.
Grantham ladies’ veteran team travelled to Spalding on Sunday and came up against strong opposition.
Played in good conditions, a very long match took place with three out of four matches being decided on a tie-break.
Although Grantham ladies played well, they were unable to win a match, losing by eight sets to one. The team consisted of Liz Frobisher and Wendy Stewart (lost 4-1), and Jackie Wilson and Janet Ibberson (lost 4-0).
Grantham’s fifth mixed team made it two wins from two on Saturday when they travelled to Keyworth and won 12 sets to six.
The match was played in very windy conditions which only added to the fun.
The Grantham team were Jarek Mechlinski and Ros Elphick, Colin Walton and Rachel Pulfree, and David Todd. After the match an excellent tea was provided by Keyworth, enjoyed by all.
Andrew Isaac, back from university in America, and Jane Hunter, Jon Cummins and Megan Jones, and Sarah Patton and Robert Start battled in the sunshine to convincingly beat a side who had won the league last season, 12 sets to sixs, with Jane and Andrew dropping only one set.
