A quartet of boys represented Grantham Tennis Club in Welbeck at the weekend.

Matthew Jagger, Matthew Gibbs, Isaac Carley and Sam Hubbard were the 12-and-under boys that travelled away. The boys lost 39-22 overall but gained valuable experience in their tennis development.

l The mixed first team played again at the weekend with a team consisting of James Drennan and Mell Milner, Megan Jones and Nigel Birch, and Richard Smart and Liz Stokes.

Grantham narrowly lost overall against a strong West Bridgford 2nd team.

There is one match left to play in the season, and Grantham still have the potential to gain promotion to Division One next season if they are are able to claim a victory.

l The men’s fourth team suffered a harsh defeat at home to a good East Bridgford side. The team comprised of Johnny Ng and Aaron Jones, John Legard and Joe Patton, and Harry Larkin and David Hall. The men played some good tennis but unfortunately the East Bridgford side brought their A team and comfortably won the match 77-31.

l Grantham mixed team seconds took on a tough East Bridgford side and recorded a comfortable 72-36 overall victory, avenging the men’s fourth team.

Results: Pam Aust and Ivo Marsik 7-5 7-5 10-2, Jeanette Turland and Nigel Birch 6-6 6-6 10-2, Carl Meuweissen and Helen Meuweissen 7-5 9-3 10-2.

It was a good win for the mixed side who will be hoping to finish the season strongly.
