Once again, February proved to be a busy month for the two older water polo squads of Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School.
At the beginning of February, the under-15 girls travelled to Bedford. After comfortably winning all of their matches (6-1, 12-0, 5-0), they secured first position in the Midlands Region and qualified for the U15 English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) National Water Polo Finals.
The under-15 squad (not pictured) are Elizabeth McLoughlin, Amelia Peters, Alex Barnett, Phoebe Leach, Maddie Barnes, Laura Harvey, Tazmin Brown, Hannah Underwood, Beau Cann-Livingstone and Jessica Trotter.
Last week saw the turn of the under-18 girls who travelled to Bedford too. They equally, confidently booked their place as Midlands Group winners for the ESSA U18 National Water Polo Finals, with three very good wins – 12-1, 10-1 and 9-0.
The under-15 and under-18 squads will want to emulate their successes and achievements of the past few years when they travel to Northampton School for Boys next Thursday for the ESSA Water Polo National Finals.
KGGS headteacher David Scott is looking forward to the finals day and wished both teams luck: “Reaching the national finals is in itself a great accomplishment. The under-15s have been national champions for the past two years so it would be an amazing achievement to complete the treble.
“The under-18s narrowly lost last year’s final so I’m sure they will be extremely determined to go one better this year.
“The whole KGGS community will be behind both teams and will be proud of their achievements whatever the outcomes.”
KGGS girls are committed and dedicated to their water polo, training twice a week at The Meres leisure centre pool as members of Grantham Water Polo Club. Thanks are extended to their coaches at GWPC.
