GOLF: Highest honour bestowed on Belton Park’s Enid

Enid Maltby has become the first lady to be appointed to the office of president at Belton Park Golf Club – the highest honorary post at the club.

Enid has been a member of Belton Park for 26 years and has held many important posts during that time. She was lady captain in 1991, ladies’ secretary and competition secretary for a period of 10 years, and served on the management committee of the club for more than 15 years.

She inaugurated the Ladies’ Charity Am-Am event in her captain’s year and ran this popular event for the next 20 years, raising more than £30,000 for charities.

As a golfer, Enid represented Belton Park in ladies’ league teams for some 20 years and was a member of the team which won the overall County Ladies’ League championship in 1995, and again in 1999. She also represented the club in The Mail on Sunday competitions for many years. Amongst her individual honours was the 2001 County Autumn Brocklesby Cup, played at Lincoln Golf Club.

Enid said she was deeply honoured to be appointed club president. She said: “It gives me enormous pleasure and pride to be part of this wonderful club. I thank the management committee and all our members for this accolade and I look forward to serving the club as its president.”

Club chairman John Taylor said it was a landmark appointment and that Enid had been an outstanding servant for the club. He said: “We, the management committee and members of Belton Park Golf Club are extremely pleased to honour Enid Maltby in this way. We wish Enid every success and hope that she enjoys her term of office.”
