Young gymnasts from Walton Girls’ High School and Sixth Form once again showed their talent and skills at last weekend’s East Midlands Schools Gymnastics Championships, which took place at Stamford Junior School last Saturday.

The Grantham academy entered teams into the under-14 and under-19 events and came away with a team and individual bronze medal at the end of the championships. Competing against four other schools in each event, the girls made an excellent effort to capitalise on their weeks of training leading up the competition. Imogen Gregory won the individual bronze for her third place overall.

The under-14 team’s bronze medal was particularly impressive as four out of the five team members are in Year 7, and competed against older girls.

After the event, Walton Girls’ faculty leader for PE Brenda Joint said: “A really amazing achievement by all our gymnasts, especially our Year 7 students. We are all looking forward to seeing them develop their potential over the coming years.”

Walton Girls’ under-14s were Charlotte Smith, Lucy Valentine, Phoebe Collins, Emily Hatherley and captain Tia Whitfield.

Walton Girls’ under-19s were Chloe Kirby, Georgia Wright, Amy Rose, Hannah Longland and captain Imogen Gregory. + Three King’s School students topped the podium in the under-14 category.

Jacob Armstrong finished first overall, Daniel Watson was runner-up and Cameron Chow took third place.

The other members of the King’s team that will represent the East Midlands in the under-14s national final were Ryan Poole, Benjamin Garment and Elliot Smith-Rasmussen.
