Mixed fortunes for Grantham Tennis Club teams

GRANTHAM Tennis Club’s weekend started with the men’s first team facing Boston at home on Saturday.

Facing strong opposition, the team comprising Richard Cragg and James Drennan, Daniel Mole and Andrew Isaac, and Nigel Birch and Ilya Paulavets lost 9-0.

The mixed doubles fourth team travelled to Mansfield. Despite the novelty of splendid grass courts, the team could not perform and ultimately lost 14 sets to four. The team were Colin Walton and Sheena Gordine, David Todd and Lorraine Walton, and Paul Kennedy and Carole Binz.

In mixed tennis on Sunday, the team of Richard Cragg and Sarah Patton, James Drennan and Lianne Tapson, and Joshua Hutchingson and Janet Ibberson travelled to Ravenshead. Despite poor form, the team pulled a victory out with a 6-3.

Finally, the ladies’ Lincolnshire first team hosted Appleby Froddingham and eventually lost 5-4 after some very good tennis. The team comprised Helen Povah and Mell Milner, Pam Aust and Liz Frobisher, and Jo Carstairs and Liz Isles.
