MOTOR RACING: Jack’s back - and this year he’s looking to become F3 champion

BASSINGHAM single-seater racing sensation Jack Harvey will be returning to the Cooper Tires British F3 International Championship this year with 2011 British F3 champions Carlin.

Last year saw Jack compete in his rookie season in British F3 with Carlin. Despite a challenging start to the season, the Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver ended the year on a high and secured four podiums in four races – including his maiden F3 win at the Nurburgring.

The coming season will mark Jack’s fourth year in single-seater racing and, with British F3 widely regarded as a

two year racing programme, he will be targeting the championship title over the course of the season to add to his second place in the 2010 Formula BMW Championship.

Jack has already begun winter testing at some of the UK tracks on the 2012 calendar and has impressed from the off, topping the timesheets at all four venues. He continue a testing programme over the winter months which will see the introduction of a new British F3 Dallara chassis for the coming season.

Jack’s championship campaign will be kick started at Oulton Park on April 6 and will see him race at 10 circuits across the UK and Europe, before the season finale at Donington Park on September 30.

Looking back over his first season in F3, Jack said that he was happy he had met his goals. He said: “With a year’s F3 racing experience under my belt, I will be

heading into the new season confident and with the single aim of winning the championship.

“It was an absolute privilege to win Racing Steps Foundation backing to race with Carlin last year. They are the top British F3 team, having won the championship seven times, and I am extremely pleased to be with them again this year.”

Carlin Motorsport boss Trevor Carlin said he was delighted to have Jack back on board for a second season. Trevor said: “Having made the big step

up from Formula BMW, Jack really developed as a driver last year and by the middle point of the

season had become a consistent front runner.

“With the experience of a year in F3, we expect Jack to be a championship

challenger from the outset.”
