ROLLER DERBY: Check out the craze that’s sweeping the nation

ROLLER Derby fans need not travel far to get a fix of their favourite sport this weekend.

Mean Valley Roller Girls are hosting “Bout to the Future” at the Catmose Sports Centre, Oakham, tomorrow (Saturday, February 4) from 2pm to 6pm.

It is also an opportunity for people who are interested in the sport to come along and see what it is all about in a fun-filled family-friendly spectacular featuring Team Gremlins, Team Goonies and Team Ghostbusters, as well as air guitar and “Mallet’s Mallet” competitions for the audience.

Skaters from all over the country, including players from Team England and Team Ireland, will be taking part.

Admission is £4 on the door, with under-12s free.

+ Even closer to home, roller derby returns to Grantham at The Meres leisure centre on Saturday, March 3, when the Lincolnshire Bombers Roller Girls roll into town.

In a double header, the Bombers will take on Birmingham Blitz Dames, and Lincolnshire Rolling Thunder will face a team yet to be announced. There will also be men’s roller derby.

Doors will open at 2pm.
