Midlands League 3
Kesteven travelled to Grimsby for their last away game of the season, looking for a win to keep up their bid for promotion.
Despite recent weather, the pitch at Grimsby was in great condition and some rare sunshine made conditions well-suited to Kesteven’s running game.
Ks made a good start with forwards and backs linking well. A great chase from Hudson forced a penalty from Grimsby. Wood took the quick tap and found Turner who crashed over for the opening score. Galloway converted for a 7-0 lead.
Shortly afterwards, Turner made another strong break and off-loaded to the supporting Goodrich who finished under the posts.
The third try came just before half time when some good passing finished with Phil Jordan scoring out wide. Galloway kicked the conversion to make it 21-0.
With the benefit of the wind in the second half, Grimsby put Kesteven under pressure and got back into the game with two good tries through some strong runs up front.
Will Cann came on at full back for Ks and made an immediate impact when he gathered his own kick ahead and scored the bonus point try.
Gav Purvis then drove over to make the game safe after some great work at the breakdown by Jamie Flear. The final try was scored by Turner who, having made the initial break, passed to Taylor and followed up to take a return pass as the wing was caught on the line. Galloway kicked both conversions to cap a great performance.
Kesteven’s two final home games against West Bridgford and Melbourne will decide promotion and the league title.
